Today, August 21st, is National Medical Dosimetrist’s Day, and we are excited to celebrate dosimetrists everywhere, including our own.
Each year, the third Wednesday of August is designated as the day for celebrating medical dosimetry professionals around the world. The day recognizes the importance of the medical dosimetry profession and honors the contributions of all dosimetrists in the field.
A medical dosimetrist is part of the radiation oncology team and works closely with the radiation oncologist and the medical physicist to create your customized treatment plan. The dosimetrist determines the best angles from which to deliver the radiation, prescribes the length of time for each pulse of radiation, and develops strategies on how best to avoid giving radiation to healthy tissue in your body. While you may never meet a dosimetrist, their role is critical in your treatment.
PCI’s very own dosimetrist, Mihai Ene, CMD, was chosen as Radformation’s User of the Month for August 2024.
